Hugh Killen, Managing Director & CEO
We often talk about our work transforming farm landscapes through regenerative agriculture – improving soil health, restoring biodiversity, boosting productivity.
We’re proud to help those ecosystems thrive.
But ‘regenerative’ means more to us than just what happens on the farm. Because at the heart of everything we do is a belief that regenerating land can also regenerate communities.
PEOPLE WITH PURPOSE
Last week, on farm in the NSW New England, one of our farm managers was asked what had brought him to Impact Ag Australia. His answer stuck with me. He said he sought us out because our values aligned with his. He wanted to work with people who were serious about stewarding land and leaving it better than we found it.
That kind of alignment is powerful. And it’s something we see again and again across our team, whether they’re farm operators, environmental scientists, financial analysts, or natural capital project managers. They’re some of the best in the business. They could work anywhere. But they chose us. And they keep choosing us when they show up to work every day.
It’s easy in this space to talk numbers. About IRRs and asset performance and natural capital metrics. And we do, because those things matter. But you could dial into any asset manager and hear a version of that story.
What makes us different?
IMPACT BEYOND THE PADDOCK
An important part of that is creating jobs – investing in local talent, using local trades and suppliers to inject capital into regional economies. But it’s also about something deeper.
It’s about building connection, purpose, and opportunity. Creating work that feels meaningful. Offering people a future in agriculture that doesn’t depend on owning land.
And building teams grounded in shared values – people who believe, like we do, that how we manage land today shapes what’s possible tomorrow.
FROM THE LAND, FOR THE LAND
I’ve done some miles this month, and the long drives between properties has given me time to reflect. And this is what I keep coming back to:
We grew up on the land. We live off the land. We are of the land.
Our roots are in farming, not finance. And that gives us something different. The IQ to drive profitable transformation through practice change, yes. But also, a deep regional EQ: we understand the rhythm of the land and the communities that rely on it.
We didn’t come from the city chasing an investment play. We came from the paddock with a purpose.
That’s why we’re not just building a business, we’re helping grow a regional agribusiness sector that’s vibrant, values-led, and future-focused. A place where people can build a life and a career in agriculture, even if they don’t own a single hectare.
That, in its own way, is regenerative. And it’s something we’re deeply connected to.
Because regenerative ag might start with land.
But it grows with people.
